Heat pumps
Tucker, GA Heat Pump Services
Repairs and replacements for the single system responsible for both summer cooling and winter heat.
Heating and Cooling From the Same Machine
A heat pump is basically a reversible air conditioner. During cooling season it collects heat inside the house and dumps it outside. When the weather turns, a reversing valve switches direction, and the outdoor coil pulls warmth out of the winter air and delivers it indoors. Since one machine handles both seasons, it logs hours nearly all year and needs a technician comfortable with both modes. HVAC Tucker repairs, replaces and installs heat pumps for houses and small businesses. Typical tickets include a reversing valve stuck in one position, a defrost board or sensor that has failed, a worn outdoor fan motor or capacitor, a refrigerant leak and auxiliary heat that runs constantly or never comes on. Some things that look alarming are perfectly normal. On cold, wet days the outdoor unit periodically melts frost off its coil: the outdoor fan stops for a few minutes, steam drifts up and the unit changes pitch. In a deep freeze, electric backup strips in the air handler help carry the load, and on a dual-fuel setup the gas furnace takes over once it gets too cold for the heat pump to keep pace. Call when ice builds on the outdoor unit and never clears, when the auxiliary heat indicator stays lit on mild days, or when the house simply will not warm up. Replacements get the same treatment as any system we install: a straight look at age and past repairs, capacity matched to the house and ducts, and a startup test in heating mode and cooling mode.
What Heat Pump Service Includes
The work below covers both the heating and cooling sides of the system.
Cooling-mode repairs
Capacitors, contactors, fan motors and refrigerant problems handled as with any AC.
Reversing valve
Valves that stick in one mode diagnosed and repaired or replaced.
Defrost controls
Sensors and boards tested when the outdoor coil stays iced over.
Auxiliary heat
Backup heat strips, sequencers and controls checked for proper operation.
Gas backup pairings
Heat pump and gas furnace combinations adjusted so the switchover happens when it should.
Refrigerant leaks
Leaks located, repaired and the system recharged to the correct level.
Replacement and installation
New heat pumps matched to the home and its ductwork and paired with the right indoor equipment.
Two-mode testing
Each visit ends with the equipment run in heat and in cool.
Steps on a Heat Pump Ticket
Describe both seasons
Tell dispatch what the system does in heating and cooling, and whether you see ice, steam or an auxiliary heat light.
Diagnosis in each mode
The tech runs the system each way, pins down the fault and gives you repair or replacement options with prices.
Fix and verify
Repairs are made, then the heat pump runs in both modes to confirm defrost, backup heat and cooling all behave.
Why Heat Pump Households Ring Us
Both modes understood
We know what normal defrost looks like and what a real problem looks like.
